What is New York Fashion Week?
New York Fashion Week or NYFW, is the fashion event which is very famous and every fashion lovers talk about it. It is the largest and the most influential show too. It occurs twice in a year that too in February for the autumn/winter collections and once again in September for the spring/summer collections. The aim of these shows are to give us the glimpse of the newest trends in fashion.
Honestly, you can tell it the Super bowl of fashion. Designers, models, influencers, and celebs create the trends the ones we will be obsessing over. If you are a fashion addict like me then your whole feed would be full of runways or about celebrity sightings from the show during the Fashion Week months just like mine.
Many big and famous brands like Marc Jacob, Telfar, or Michael Kors displayed their newest looks on NYFW time. Fresh rising designers also got their chance to show themselves as well. And it is not only about the fashion shows. The backstage moments, street style, and celebrity images contribute to the excitement of the show and ads more hype. With social media becoming common these days, anyone can watch fashion shows without even being present there.
Where and when was NYFW 2024?
This years New York Fashion Week occurred two times as always. From Feb 9–14 was the first show which was for showcasing autumn-winter collections and the second show which on September 6-11 for the spring-summer collections.
These events aren’t just conducted at one spot, they take over different iconic locations all across New York City. It’s such a vibe, as the whole city will be buzzing with fashion, creativity, and all. The events usually take place at places such as Spring Studios and other high-profile places like the Plaza Hotel, and sometimes outdoor or special venues located in various parts of the city.
In September 2024, several fashion brands truly dominated the runway at New York Fashion Week by showing their bold collections that caught the attention of the fashion world and social media.
Brands that dominated the runway
The September NYFW 2024 was great, and we can't deny that Tommy Hilfiger stole the show. He made a lot of hype on social media too. Including K-pop idols such as Stray Kids’ Lee Know and Blackpink’s Jisoo, this big fashion house worked with many other stars in their campaigns. These stars not only rocked Tommy's looks, but the brand also took things up a notch by hosting its runway on an old Staten Island Ferry by mixing both fashion and entertainment in the coolest way possible.
Michael Kors wasn’t far behind either, making waves with Twice’s Dahyun as their global ambassador. The show had a stunning vibe as they celebrated their 35 years of working with Italian artisans and giving off all the chic, timeless feels with dreamy black-and-white Italian landscapes leading up to the event.
Area came through with its wild, avant-garde energy for their 10th anniversary, pushing the boundaries of fashion like never before. Meanwhile, Collina Strada kept it real with a focus on sustainability by showing off their playful designs that felt like a love letter to nature.
Behind the Curtains: The other half part of the show
When it comes to NYFW, what happens on the runway is only a half part of the story. The other half part is behind the scenes, where there’s a whole other world of chaos, creativity, and high-energy prep that makes these shows difficult to forget. Most of the time it will be full of chaos as makeup artists will be in hurry and will rushing to perfect a model's look, and stylists can be seen adjusting last-minute wardrobe tweaks, and designers fine-tuning every detail of their collection moments before it hits the runway. Behind the scenes must be full of adrenaline rush, but isn't that the best part of the fashion week?
Models rehearse a lot and they also have to go through endless fittings, so which basically also means walking in heels for hours and making it look effortless and elegant when they finally hit the runway.
And when we think about fashion week, our thoughts only goes to clothes, but no, it’s not just about the clothes it also about the stage set-up. Because without them fashion show is incomplete. In BTS, set designers are building jaw-dropping stages, lighting techs are creating the perfect ambiance, and sound engineers are creating playlists that will leave an impact even after the show ends.
In short, it can be said that behind-the-scenes action at NYFW is where the real magic happens. Months of planning are turned into moments that can blow up online and become fashion history.
Models that walked the 2024 NYFW
In NYFW 2024, we can see the mix of both the legendary names and fresh faces lighting up the runway. One of the top models, Bella Hadid, continued to serve as a fashion week icon, while Gigi Hadid added her own flair to the event, keeping the spotlight on them. Paloma Elsesser also made a statement with her powerful presence by making it difficult to look away from her runway walk.
New models like Lila Moss, following in the footsteps of her mother Kate Moss, and Quanah Chasinghorse, who represented the indigenous beauty and culture by adding new energy to the scene. It was a wonderful mix of seasoned emotions and rising talent that made NYFW 2024 extremely diverse and definitely one to remember.
Some celebrities that attended the NYFW 2024
At NYFW Spring/Summer 2025, some of the most buzzworthy celebrities were spotted front row and center, and this added more star power to the event. Jennifer Lopez showed up at the Ralph Lauren show, while Lil Nas X slayed his edgy look in Coach. Emma Roberts made an appearance at both Ralph Lauren and Khaite, and Gabrielle Union was also spotted at Ralph Lauren.
K-pop stars like Krystal Jung and Twice’s Dahyun added to the global appeal of the event, attending shows for brands like Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors. Some other K-pop stars like Jisoo from Blackpink and Lee Know from Stray Kids were also seen in NYFW.
Sofia Richie Grainge, who has become a star queen lately, made a major appearance at Ralph Lauren and made people's heads turn with her effortless vibe. Dove Cameron also showed up by looking super chic at the Coach show, adding even more star power to the week.
