Introduction
The 80s, a revolution in fashion you can say. Think about bright colors, courageous designs and styles such as punk, new wave and hip-hop from all over the place. All these factors made it possible to design regular clothes that could not be forgotten any soon and thus impact fashion history in a big way.
And need I mention the icons of those days? Princess Diana, Madonna, Michael Jackson – do you want more trend setters? Even up to this moment the icons still define 80s fashion vibe.
So let’s go on our journey through all the 80s fashion trends and iconic styles.
Shoulder pads
Shoulder pads were huge in 1980s fashion especially for women’s clothing. They were typically composed of foam or fabric materials They would be added to jackets, dresses or even tops so as to give shoulders wider appearance as well as shape outline on body.
This symbolizes confidence plus strength; they could also be found in casual wear besides evening or workplace clothes

Neon colors
Neon colours attracted a lot of fashion enthusiasts back in the 80s. Who wouldn't love styling these colours, right? There were many bright neon colours that were so trendy at that time. Hot pink, lime green, submerged blue, and neon yellow are some of the colours.
People donned them all over; from cloths to accessories and even makeup. Wherever you went, outfits would pop because of these neon hues, be it during the day or night. In those days, bright neon was everywhere and people liked mixing them with nude shades or other vibrant colours just for effect.
Leg warmers, scrunchies, windbreakers and funky sneakers had a lot of neon in them. These bright colors formed a major part of the fashion mood at that time and left a lasting impression on style of the decade. They were incredibly popular in 80s fashion.
Acid washed jeans
When it comes to Acid-washed jeans you can say that they took over fashion during the 1980s. Their cool worn-out look made everyone want to own a pair of them. The process involved treating denim fabric with chemicals as well as bleach so as to give it a faded appearance which resembled tie-dye; hence giving these pants a rugged vintage feel which both men and women loved.
It was common to see acid washed jeans matched up with anything such as band t-shirts or blazers which made them an essential element for the particular era’s fashion sense. The trend died off by early 90s but has reappeared several times since then reminding us how iconic it was in fashion history.
Punk influence
The punk fashion in eighties completely influenced. They rocked torn clothes, leather jackets and studded accessories to express their nonchalance towards conformity.
Safety-pinned ripped jeans was like speaking out the punk ideology through a pair of pants. Those patchwork and studded leather jackets? It is a way of being rebellious.
Despite having started in the 70s, this trend still held strong through the 80s and even beyond. It revolutionized alternative and mainstream fashion.
Preppy style
1980s fashion witnessed preppy dressing as one of its biggest trends. It featured an uncluttered, neat and refined look that drew upon Ivy League and upper-class inspirations. Think about polo shirts, khaki trousers; cable sweaters or deck shoes in terms of clothing. Its sleekness shows it off well?
Classic looks composed preppy 80’s wardrobe of basics done in neutral hues such as black, blue or brown. People always seemed tidy with crisply ironed outfits that matched each other closely.
In the past, Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers and Lacoste were essential in making preppy style cool. It was about merging sophistication with relaxed vibes that has made preppiness a timeless trend which persists even today.

Top brands During the 80s
Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Guess among others were the trendy designer labels. Both high-end and casual wear were worn by some of the most stylish kids going around. I mean you couldn’t flip through a magazine without seeing someone representing one of these brands.
Big hair
Fashion was majorly represented by having voluminous and long hair, especially among women, in that decade, the 1980s. As for the volume, height and drama, women wore hairstyles that would top the charts as if putting their existence on display and saying, I am HERE.

Another very stylish look was the sport like wet or teased look also known as backcombing. The volumizing shampoo was meant to be used by washing your hair, teasing it at the roots to give it more volume and then using the serum to smoothe it for the very big volume, fluff look. Of course hairspray was needed for everyone to keep all of whatever on their heads in place..
And let's not forget about perms! Those were huge. It was about having that volume and that perfect curls or waves you wanted on your hair, that you’d chemically treat it to produce. Everyone was rocking those huge big voluminous hairstyles that were majorly filling the 80s fashion.
Conclusion
Jasmine, from Orange County, dated the idea back to the 80s as she said that fashion during that decade was daring and people did not hold back when making statements that reflected their personalities. It was a style mash up of punk, preppy and stereos with regards to individuality.
I hope you all got as hyped up about 80s fashion as I did. Those trends are seriously fire, and I can't wait to try them out myself. Seriously, give them a shot and level up your wardrobe with some killer styles.
